PETRA IN CONCERT!

Juniata County Fair Concert - September 1st, 2002

This was my fourth Petra concert to date! I drove all the way down in my 1990 Buick Regal with my friend Bill! We were the ones that came all the way down from Boston, MA to see Petra and (except for the dreadful traffic on the way back) was WELL worth the nearly 450 mile road trip! I don't think ANYONE came further to see Petra than Bill and I! :) Anyway, getting into the concert review now.

I heard Quinton Gibson (I will refer to him as Q for the rest of this review), or Q, jamming before the concert. I LOVED that crunch, almost METAL sound he had going on. It rocked! Then one band called Last Daze came out and did a few songs. They did a pretty good job and Bill was impressed. Then of course afterwards, PETRA CAME ON! And they started of with "The Noise We Make" of course and rocked the party.

Here is the setlist that Q gave us :).

1. The Noise We Make
2. Creed Medley
3. I've Waited/Ancient of Days Medley
4. Rose Colored Stained Glass Windows (actually wasn't on the list but they played it)
5 . Enter In
6 . Oasis
7 . We Need Jesus
A. Food for the Hungry Promotion
8. Send Revival
9. Lord We Lift Your Name On High
10. Amazing Grace
11. Praying Man
12. Thousand Words
13. Beyond Belief
14. He Came, He Saw, He Conquered

Encore:

15. Dance
16. How Long

Wow! What a Set list! At first there wasn't any real rockers, but after the Food For the Hungry promotion thing, the really got into and Q was doing all the best guitar riffs and solos I've heard in a LONG time! I am convinced that this is the best line-up since 1994. Greg and Q seem to have really good chemistry, as some of the petheads told me at the concert. Louie, as far as I could tell, could have been a 25-year old, full of energy drummer cuz he was doing anything they could do, but better. Bryce was not afraid to use the keyboard on the songs and John Schlitt's voice sounded better than ever this concert! In fact, it sounded better this time than it did over 2 years ago when I saw them in Boston. He really got the high notes really well and overall I believe he can still do as many high notes as he could 16 years ago when he first started with Petra! I think the best songs they did were Praying Man, He Came He Saw, We Need Jesus, Send Revival, and Rose Colored Stained Glass Windows. The riffs on He Came, He Saw were AWESOME. The guitar solos were almost exactly online with the way they were on the album. Louie was doing the best I've ever seen him keeping on track with the other guys. All of them were full of energy... even Bryce was moving more than he was 2 years ago. On Praying Man and Creed, you could really here the keyboards and it was really good! They could definitely do another album with these new guys... a rocker, that is! Man... John was really onfire for God, you could see it in his eyes... he had a real passion... especially when he told stories about how he went to third world countries and how he felt blessed being in the States (this was when he was talking about Food for the Hungry). Overall, I rate this concert a B... where the last concert was like a C+. Well, anyway, it's time for the pictures... the OK quality but at least upclose!

Of course, probably the best quality of a picture that was taken. Last row is me (Jay) and Bill, my friend. First row is Greg, Q, and John. Louie and Bryce were in the dressing room so we couldn't get their pics. Ah well.

Here is the car that got us there: My 1990 Buick Regal. :)

Here is a picture of a bridge on the way back. This was in NY where we got stuck in a lot of traffic cuz we went the wrong way like idiots. LOL

Inside the bridge! REALLY COOL!

HAHAHA!!! What a pathetic joke of a gas station!!! 1.99 for regular! That's sad! And there were actually people getting gas there where they couldv'e just went down the street and saved more than fifty cents a gallon!! This was in Connecticut.

A somewhat OK pic of the inside of the motel we stayed in.

Coming back from Hoss's, a breakfast buffet place. Here is the hotel outside. Notice the sign we put on the door "petheads here!" :) Of course we were the only ones staying in Carlisle. Ok... now for the pictures of the concert!

There is John, and he's still got his chops!!!

Here is a good shot of Petra and a Q/Greg solo.

Q jamming and John getting ready to fly away!

Now that's what I'm talkin' about!

There is Q and You can sorta see Louie over there. I tried getting a good pic of Louie, but I guess I shouldn't of had the DANG flash on! BAD IDEA/WORST MISTAKE I made! Ah well. :)

And that's it I guess for now. there were more but they didn't come in that great. Next time I will make sure not to use flash!!! :)

Overall, I was rocked, the crowed was rocked and you could tell, and I would go again! :)

OTHER THINGS I GOT: A setlist and a pick that Q gave me! And I ALSO got them to sign a picture too.
