"DISSECTING THE MUSIC OF PETRA SINCE 1997"
WARNING: You will be either amazed at what we have found or just plain laugh and say, "I already knew that!"
1. On the song "Hollow Eyes", you can hear John Lawry say something at the beginning of the song. Does anyone know what he says?
2. Turn up the volume at the end of songs that slowly fade. You can hear parts of songs that you never would hear if you don't turn the volume ALL THE WAY UP. Here are some songs that are included in this category. You may miss a few seconds of a song if you don't turn up the volume!
He Came, He Saw, He Conquered; Alter Ego; Adonai; Voice in the Wind; You Are My Rock; All the King's Horses, All Fired Up; and others.
3. On the song "Enter In" and "Underneath the Blood", Bob Hartman uses the talk box. It's kind of hard to hear it on "Enter In" because he does it once in the second chorus.
4. At the end of the song "Think Twice" if you listen closely, at the end of the song you can hear "Did you ever, did you ever, did you ever think twice?". Turn up your volume to hear this. Also, I think, if you listen closely during the song, you may hear it in other places.
5. Some songs you may not hear the keyboards if you don't have surround sound or you have a bad quality sound system. There are keyboards in the song "If I had to die for someone" at the beginning and in the second chorus.
6. On the song "Judas Kiss'" has backmasked words at the beginning. It says "What are you looking for the devil for when you outta be looking for the Lord?".
7. On the song "Witch Hunt" you can hear people say things all throughout the song. But you may not notice they BACKMASK it first before they play it forward in the last chorus. At the end of the song, you can hear it come back on again and then end with a weird twist with a funky bass sound.
8. On the song "All Fired Up", you can hear Louie just miss the beat by a half second on the second time around on the chorus (at the beginning part of) where it goes "and my heart is a burning coal!". Some Petra fans that are faithful to Petra (and don't care if they turned country because they love them so much) say that Louie does that on purpose. Oh well, Petra must be perfect so they just can't make a mistake, anyway, huh? Yeah... sure... :)
9. On the song "Stand Up" you may hear the sticks at the beginning of the song, but if you listen closely, you can hear Louie go "1, 2, 3, 4!". At the end of the song when Greg goes "Yeah!" for some reason it was recorded low.
10. On the songs "Back to the Street" and "Another Crossroad" you can hear the keyboard mimic the sound of a guitar! Sounds cool.
11. On the song "Fool's Gold" and "You are I am" at the end of both songs you can hear John Schlitt go really high and he sounds like Greg Volz!
12. This is not a Petra song, but at the end of John Schlitt's solo Album "Unfit For Swine" on the song "We don't have to take it" you can hear John breathe into the mic "Heh heh. Incidentally, I'm not over the hill." Thomasina Green from the Zone says he said that despite his producer's thoughts that he was too old (over the hill) to do this kind of music, he decided to say that! "Well, Johnny will never be over the hill", says Thomasina, "he's always going up; there's a higher place to go!"
13. Someone from the zone says they heard some strange sounding stuff at the end of the song "Just Reach Out". They also heard some heavy breathing at the very end of the song.
14. At the end of the song "Lucas McGraw", you can hear pigs snort at the end of the song. LOL!
15. At the end of the song "In the Likeness of you" the beginning CD part comes on and you can hear someone say stuff like "You can't see it, but you know it's there. It's like some kind of... Unseen Power." He has an Australian accent.
16. Do you think that Doxology was inspired by the ending to "Yahweh Love"? Hmm...
17. There are some songs that have guitar in it and you may not notice it. Listen to Hollow Eyes... that IS a guitar playing. And on the song "I am Available" there are guitar harmonics used with the same pattern all throughout the whole song. If you continue on listening to it, it kind of gets annoying!
18. On Kenaniah, they messed up on the lyrics in the booklet.
19. If you listen closely you can hear feedback right before they play "God Gave Rock and Roll to You" on CITAS.
20. Also on CITAS, Greg messes up on Judas' Kiss.
21. On the Backstage Pass video, at the end of the "funny intro" they turn the camera and I think you can just see as it fades away one of the producers. Anyone know who that is?
22. If you want to hear the "acoustic version" of "Ready, Willing, and Able", watch that video.
23. We're not really sure who it is, but someone goes "Oh" right before the electric guitar starts on "Matter of Time".
24. If you listen closely you can hear John go "Whoa!"high in the background as the chorus plays on "Over the Horizon".
25. On Beat the System after the first chorus on "Computer Brains", you can hear Greg Volz go "eye-yeah" like he didn't care, but on the same song on CITAS, he says it like he means it! Hmm...
THAT'S ALL FOR NOW. IF YOU GET ANY MORE, PLEASE TELL US AND WE'LL POST IT!!
