PETRA: 1972-2005: 33 YEARS (plus many reunion shows)

Welcome to one of the first Petra fan sites to become a domain named site (December 1999)! Thanks Bill for the Petra Biographies, Players, and Music clips. We both decided to do the discography section sharing both our ideas about the albums. The benefit of this section is because we both know about the same amount about Petra and like the same thing (except he likes Greg's voice more than John's). ABOUT PETRA (written in 1999)

PETRA is my favorite group, "No Doubt" about that. PETRA was and still is one of the most popular Christian bands to hit the Christian Rock scene. At the time they started, they were #1 in Christian Rock even though, back then, Christian rock wasn't widely accepted and they had problems with people picketing their concerts and speaking out against "the devil's music". But, the unique rock and roll style of the band has kept fans coming back for more. But on the spiritual side, they are VERY strong with the lyrics. Bob Hartman, the founder of PETRA back in 1972, has been with the band all the way and was the lead guitarist, songwriter, and did some vocals for 25 years with PETRA... about a quarter of a century! (Now he's back to play guitar for Revival!) And now he is the executive producer of Petra and is still writing great lyrics for the songs that PETRA plays today. They were the only Christian group to make it to the Hard Rock Cafe. And God has been the most important role in this band, because he has decided to bless them with great musical talent, lyrics, chemistry, and even years. And today they still play awesome rock concerts. The reality of PETRA now is that they have been toning down because of the times... but Trent Thomason (who played keyboards for a short while for Petra on tour) has said that the next album after Double Take (their 19th album) will be a "REAL ROCKER"! Well, think of PETRA as a presidency... you must be pretty darn lucky to be a member and, well, there have been about 40 members in the band over the years! LOL! Well, not really that much, but they only have 1 original member, Bob Hartman. The only thing that is the same is how it is all for God (and of course it is all rock music too). But PETRA isn't the only good rock group out there. Here are a few you might enjoy too if you like PETRA:
